Getting Started with CodeBaby Studio:
To get started with your own CodeBaby Character, just make a selection from the bank of stock characters, import your audio file (as a .wav or .mp3), and Studio will automatically lip-sync and gesture-sync the character to your audio. You then have full control over the character’s facial expressions, gestures, and movements using 300 drag-and-drop animations. CodeBaby Studio allows you to export your characters as .swf, .flv, or .avi file types, so you can import characters into any Learning Management System (LMS) or authoring tool-set! |
Learning interactions are essentially social, but eLearning courses are frequently lacking in social intelligence. Animated characters can stand in for learning facilitators, act as peer trainers, or interact with each other to model desired behaviors. Researcher Byron Reeves from Stanford University says, “When characters guide interactions … people trust the information more than in identical interactions without characters.”*
So as you’re scripting your characters, consider the human factor. Characters should have:
- Clearly defined roles in the lesson or course
- Distinct personas and “voice”
- Compelling perspective on the content
