These cross-platform formats are ideal for the various LMS and courseware applications on the market today.

Digital Instructors Engage Learners

eLearning is becoming more important for academic learning environments as well. As the web continues to grow as the primary means of communication, students are flocking to the convenience of an online classroom. It’s proving to be quite effective, as well. In August 2009, a report prepared for the U.S. Department of Education found that online learning could be even more effective than traditional, classroom learning. According to the SRI International study in partnership with the MIT OPenCourseWare initiative, “on average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction.”

eLearning avatars enhance the online learning experience by interacting with students and giving them an emotional connection to the learning material. A 2002 Stanford study concludes that “Characters have also been shown to sustain liking across sessions (up to six months in length), making them appropriate for relationships that persist over time; for example, in the case of an instructional character giving lessons over multiple sessions. It is also important to note that a large majority of all users like characters; characters are not just for children and novices.” (Reeves, Byron, 2002)
